Are you confused about the difference between a copyright, trademark, and patent? What constitutes ownership of Intellectual Property? What are some common myths about copyrights and copyright protection? How do I register my work? Why should I register my work? What constitutes infringement and what do I do if it happens to me?

If you’ve ever asked yourself any of these questions, this seminar is for you! IP attorney Jessie Christine Bassner will present a thorough introduction to copyright law for artists, and answer questions about registering work, address common copyright myths, and explain the best steps to take if your work is infringed.

Ms. Basner is an attorney with Clemente Mueller, PA, in Cedar Knolls, NJ, whose practice includes intellectual property with a focus on copyrights and intellectual property rights, as well as general litigation in both state and federal courts. Ms. Basner represents several artists across the country and in Canada, defending their copyrights as well as in business deals to ensure their intellectual property rights are protected.  She has additional experience litigating claims related to environmental matters, pharmaceuticals, bankruptcy, collections, and product liability. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Basner clerked for the Honorable Ann G. McCormick, who handled complex commercial matters.  She has been named to the Super Lawyers® “Rising Star” list for 2016 and 2017, in the areas of Intellectual Property, Business Litigation, and Class Action/Mass Torts.

CSA Valpo is excited to present this valuable seminar in partnership with the Chesterton Art Center/the Association of Artists and Craftsmen of Porter County.
