CSA Art in Action
What is art in action?
It’s a series of pop-up events, organized by CSA Valpo and led by local artists, but inviting YOU the community to contribute and collaborate to create a temporary work of art. No experience is necessary, everyone is welcome, and it’s all about the process. Stay tuned to this page and our Facebook page for upcoming events.
Past Art in Action Events
Our first Art in Action day was held at the Porter County Museum during the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival. With the help of visitors, we constructed a large string mural on the front lawn of the museum.
Urban Printmaking brought people of all ages to try their hand at relief printing from some of Valparaiso's downtown manhole and utility covers. We created flags, tee shirts, and tote bags using water-based inks and capturing the unique beauty of the shapes and lettering in the everyday environment.
During the Winter Lights celebration at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, CSA Valpo helped kids of all ages create a 100 ft long scroll of holiday lights using their thumbprints. This festive, collaborative piece was displayed at the offices of Porter County Parks after the event.
Listen Up: A CSA Art in Action Event was a poetry reading and open-mic style spoken word event, featuring local writers Tina Porter and Darlene Cohn. Community members were invited to sign up to read, had an opportunity to enjoy the scheduled performers, contribute to a community poem on a vintage typewriter, and enjoy coffee and baked goods from our hosts at the Red Cup Cafe.
